Santiago Bernabéu Stadium: tour, matches and how to get there
The Santiago Bernabéu, on the Paseo de la Castellana, is one of the most famous stadiums in the world and a must for any football fan visiting Madrid.
The home of Real Madrid
Opened in 1947 and named after the club president who drove the project, the Bernabéu has undergone a full renovation that has given it a new wraparound façade, a retractable roof and a huge 360-degree video scoreboard. As well as football, it now hosts concerts and major events.
The stadium tour
The Bernabéu tour takes you through the museum with the club's trophies, panoramic views from the top of the stands, the dressing rooms, the tunnel and the bench. Tickets are sold on the club's official website; check the calendar, as the tour changes on match days.
Watching a match
If you are going to a match, arrive early: the area around the stadium fills up hours before kick-off and the atmosphere in the nearby bars is part of the experience.
Getting there from the Salamanca district
From Bingo Odonnell, at Calle de O'Donnell 21-23, the Bernabéu is about 15 to 20 minutes away by metro or taxi. The stadium's station is Santiago Bernabéu (line 10).
